What You Should Know About CBD Water Before Drinking It

CBD water is a unique product with particular properties, but will it work as well in the same way as CBD products? Find out what you need to know before drinking it.

Should you drink CBD water?

CBD water is just one of the many CBD products ranging from CBD gummies to eye drops, to suntan lotions — that are available to purchase and test. Like other forms of cannabidiol, CBD water has distinctive characteristics that relate to how quickly it can work and how long its effect lasts, and what dosage is the most effective.

CBD water has some pros and cons,” states Martin A. Lee, co-founder, and director of Project CBD, a California non-profit that supports CBD research and is the author of Smoke Signals: A Social History of Marijuana-Medical, Recreational, and scientific. “If you’re going to infuse beverages with CBD–which is a perfectly legitimate way to take it–you have to use a certain method.”

Here’s what you must know if you’re thinking about drinking CBD water.

What is CBD?

CBD is among two primary ingredients in the marijuana plant as well as its hemp plant. Unlike the other main ingredient, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce a high. Marijuana tends to contain more THC, while hemp has more CBD. (Here’s more information on the differences between CBD and. THC.)

In the United States, most CBD is made from hemp which is able to be grown in a legal manner provided it has less than 0.3 percent THC as required by the 2018 Farmers Bill. Hemp is also used in the production of rope carpets, paper, and much more.

Is CBD safe?

Most experts believe CBD to be extremely secure. In high doses, it can be a drug interaction with other substances such as blood thinners, and common painkillers. Additionally, pure CBD might require higher doses versus full-spectrum and broad-spectrum drugs, which include other components (more on this in the future). Always consult your doctor to ensure CBD doesn’t affect the effectiveness of any medication you’re taking. There is a National Library of Medicine that keeps an exhaustive list of possible drug interactions.

Also, make sure you choose American-grown CBD, which reduces the likelihood that a product could be polluted with harmful substances. “You know better what’s in it,” says Dr. Goldstein.

What is CBD water?

CBD water is only one of many products within the vast CBD drinks market that is expected to surpass $1.4 billion in 2023 according to market consultant firm Zenith Global. You can also buy CBD tea, CBD coffee, CBD sports drinks, and CBD sodas.

Nanotechnology has the potential to structurally alter fat molecules. The result is packaged as a nanoemulsion. “You have to make the CBD compatible with water, otherwise the homogenized oil floats to the top,” Lee explains Lee. “It requires a technological intervention . . . Thus, the body interprets it as water.”

Although there’s not much research regarding CBD-infused drinks yet this process alteration could mean that your body absorbs CBD CBD more quickly, and it begins working faster (in some cases, as little as the span of 20 minutes).

What’s the trade-off? The result of CBD being absorbed through water may not last long.

If it acts quicker, it stops acting quicker, whereas edible or ingestible effects could last four hours easily,” says Lee.

And again, it’s important to note that hemp water has fairly low levels of CBD, and it can differ based on the brand.

Where can I purchase CBD water?

There is a wide range of quality CBD products for water that varies greatly, which means you’d be advised to conduct research prior to purchasing. Finding a reputable company is key.

Go with a company that has a website, ideally a phone number that you can call,” says Dr. Goldstein. “It’s very important that the company is transparent in terms of their extraction process and whether or not they add other ingredients to their products.”
